I have a boy with Autism and he had quite definite sensory issues which made eating a chore! -really you have no idea! With the help of an O.T. they lessened and with a firm hand from me we've overcome it to a degree. I just decided one day to take the same philosophy as you - one family- one meal. He will now try anything - sometimes begrudgingly, but will place it in his mouth...and food is no longer an issue. I wonder if you have any experience with these children?

Im sad to say I have let me good habits go into hibernation over the last year.
Im angry with myself now, but it was peer pressure!
Not from my children but from the man I moved in with and my step children. Instead of letting my good food habits dominate, I let it slide the other way! Three years ago my kids considered sultanas to be a treat, now a king size kit-kat is the norm. (please know I'm not really bad ok!)
Thank you so much for giving me that reality check I needed.

You are very good Kate and admit that I was too until I started living with a chocolate lover. That said we do not have any in the house as chocolates and french food are proving to be a lethal combination :-)

Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog, we live in SW France in the Dordogne which is 5 hours from Paris and about 6 hours from Provence - we can recommend accommodation if you have not found any yet :-)

Oh you are such a good Mum Kate. I love the balance with the Freddo! I think the longer I have been away from Dietetics, the worse I have become... hence the 65kg... ha!!!.... I must admit I do let them do the lolly thing at the movies but I do not have ANY junk at home as the resident ex-Dietitian can't be trusted with whole packets of Tim Tams and the like! Yes, free next week. Have traddies here for a couple of weeks but I think I'll leave hubby to supervise them. A-M xx

Can't SMS back... I have such a tragic phone. The boys had a wonderful time. Mr K has decided that R is now his girlfriend and Mr B said, "J is so cool, it's like we are the same age". I am curious we buy our sausages from the local butcher who is known for the best sausages and they are not fatty as they often stick to the pan...would these contain sulphites? I get terrible migrains from wines that contain the preservative 220 but not the wines that contain preservative 224?

We always eat the Sanitarium Vege Delight sausages (boys love them), even tried their hot dogs yesterday. I think they are sulphite free. I chucked out the packet. Now you have me curious. We eat them because they not slimey and fatty like regular sausages and you know when I do have a regular sausage these days... whoa... they make me feel sick. Too much information? I LOVED the tuck shop menus in New Zealand SO much more then what we offer here in the States. My oldest son always had wonderful healthy choices and now his Middle School (Intermediate) serve PIZZA everyday! (Among other choices, but lets be real..most of those kids are choosing the pizza) Oh yeah, and I hate to admit it but I'm one of those mums who get off school grounds before we can be hit up for playdates as fast as I can! ;-D Bad I know!
